Speaker Meeting 20th February 2023 |
|
The Church Wilne Rotary recently welcomed Rotarian David Hewitt to its Speaker Evening. He gave an inspirational talk on the ongoing efforts supporting "The Cherish Village Project in Kenya". Back in 2019, David, along with friends from Derby County Community Trust, https://www.derbycountycommunitytrust.com/", visited the Cherish Village Project in Kenya, building school classrooms, a kitchen, supplying cooking stoves and teaching the school children English. As a Club we were extremely proud of David and the team. Later that year, building regulations were changed, resulting in the need to rebuild school building first floor structures out of stone and concrete rather than the traditional sheet metal over a wooden frame. Land has been purchased on the outskirts of the town, near the old school site (by a Derby benefactor) and new classrooms, a kitchen and a new toilet block have been built. Church Wilne Rotary have donated a water pump to enable a well, on the school land, to supply clean drinking water for the teachers and children to enable them to grow crops and provide food & drink for the children, many of whom would be left hungry without their school meals. |
