Colin writes:

Though Dennis was very poorly from October on he showed great fortitude & determination to do the best for the club & gave me carte blanche to do as I thought fit in his place.

He was always keen to hear of my plans & to discuss these with me when possible, especially in relation to Ladies Night, Christmas Meal with Partners & Charter Night, all of which he attended & went well thanks to the hard work & enthusiasm of Club Service Chairman Simon.

At the end of my year I was delighted to hand over to SVP Simon Chaplin who I had personally introduced to the club & was thrilled at the unexpected presentation to me by the club of a Past Deputy President’s Jewel & a painting of the St Andrews Club House, viewed over the Swilcan Bridge on the Old Course, which is proudly displayed in my home.

Though my year was tinged with the sadness of Dennis’ illness throughout I was pleased to be able to serve the club in this capacity & enjoyed doing so immensely.
