Charter Night 15th April 2016
Paul Harris Fellowship Awards

At the 31st Charter Anniversary of the Church Wilne Rotary Club, President Tony Beenham said "it is my privilege and great pleasure to make presentations of Paul Harris Fellow Awards to 2 persons."

"This prestigious award, established in memory of the Rotary International Founder Paul Harris, is given by Rotary Clubs to Rotarians and others in recognition of outstanding service to the community and their Club."

"All of us seek to uphold the objects of Rotary, which can be summarised by the phrase "Service above Self". None of us seek or expect any individual public recognition: but the members of our Club have given this Award over the years as an acknowledgement and as a public thank you for outstanding service: one member has used the phrase "going the extra mile".

"The first recipient this evening has gone much further than the extra mile in the whole of his 17 year Rotary membership has been marked by a rare, continuous and unmatched dedication to personal service. He usually serves either as Chairman, or as a member, on a Club Committee which includes the word Community or Service Projects in its name."

Tony continued by saying " I would like to publicly thank him, on behalf of all the other 50 members of our Club, for all the work done by him over the last 17 years relating to :
The annual OAP Tea Party, the annual Christmas Float, the ongoing RIBI Aqua Box Project managed by Wirksworth Rotary Club, which involves his weekly attendance on a Tuesday morning". Others included the Life Education Caravan, the Padley Centre Computer Project in Derby, the Derbyshire Special Schools Sporting Olympics, the Photographic Competition for children, and collection for Polio Plus at Derby Westfield and Sainsbury's and the Youth Mechanics Course with PC Phil Day.

Tony continued by saying "it gives me great pleasure, on behalf of all the other members of our Club, to ask John Gregory to step forward to receive his Paul Harris Fellowship Award."

"The second recipient of the Paul Harris Fellowship Award which can be given to Rotary members and others in recognition of outstanding service to the community. This Award is being given by me, on behalf of all our 51 members, for the first time to a person who is not a Rotarian."

"She has given 9 years of outstanding service to our Club and the community relating to the Christmas float. She has also gone very much further than the extra mile."

"She has attended the Float on most nights during this time acting as collector ( in all weathers ), distributing and washing the tabards, and jointly with husband Brian, having principal responsibility relating to the cash collection, including control of the collecting tins. The massive input by both of them into our annual Christmas Float was recognised last year by an Award to her husband Brian."

"And so it gives me great pleasure once again, on behalf of all our members, to publicly recognise the role played by this outstanding supporter of our Club activities - Joyce Stokes"
